The Story of the AK47 Cannabis Strain

The legendary AK47 strain ticks all the boxes, and is renowned for her knockout strength, as well as being a valuable beginner strain. AK47 is a sativa dominant plant, that can maintain a very manageable height. This plant also has a flowering time of 8 - 9 weeks, which is quite short compared to most average sativa dominant strains. In terms of growth patterns, the AK47 grows more like an indica, showing indica pedigree in both the shape of the leaves, as well as the overall structure or profile of the plant. AK47 buds cure to a pale green, and are coated in an abundance of white trichomes; the THC content often reaching well over 20%. This plant has a very generous yield of 350-500g/m2 when in optimal conditions. Over the years since she was introduced to the cannabis community, AK47 has won a long list of awards. Including 2nd place at the 1999 High Times cannabis cup in the sativa category. Also again winning 3rd place in the hybrid category as recently as 2011.

AK47 was originally created by Serious Seeds of Amsterdam; and there is no question that their genuine article is still the best in the business. AK47 incorporates genetic contributions from Afghanistan, Thailand, Mexico, and Colombia, resulting in a diverse cannabinoid profile. The sativa elements sourced from Thailand, Colombia, and Mexico contribute to the strain's remarkable and potent high. The Afghan genetics contribute to the plant's structure and play a role in shaping both the cannabinoid profile and the overall effect of this strain.

The original AK 47 from Serious Seeds has kept the cannabis community in good stead since arriving in the late 90’s; and is still to this day the most popular strain at Seed City. The strain is so popular that many different companies have either tried to replicate it, or have decided to use it as a parent in their own crosses. Since the AK was introduced attempts have been made to replicate the strain, most notably by Nirvana Seeds and Vision Seeds with their similarly named AK48 and AK49 strains respectively. AK 47 has been a parent in many crosses such as Ultra Genetics AK Confidential, where the strain has been crossed with LA Confidential. Sweet seeds crossed their Cream Caramel strain with the AK to make Cream 47; while Jordan of the Islands crossed the strain with the BC God Bud to great God’s AK47. All of these crossings are excellent, and are different in their own right. But perhaps the best AK47 cross again comes from Serious Seeds, with their fantastic White Russian. In the White Russian strain the AK47 has been crossed with the infamous White Widow. White russian is also extremely sought after and this has lead many breeders to trying to copy this strain as well as the AK47.

AK47 has been ingeniously integrated into several popular crosses. One notable example is Seedism's Elvis, which combines AK47 and Skunk to create a unique strain. Big Head Seeds' Oblivion strain also features an AK47 pairing, blending it with their distinctive Big Head variety. World of Seeds introduces their Yumboldt 47, fusing AK47 with the Humboldt/Yumboldt in-bred line (IBL). Additionally, World of Seeds presents Space, a captivating trifecta comprising Black Domina, Mazar, and AK47.

As well as the crosses and the replica versions of this strain, there have been numerous attempts to make auto versions of this strain. Serious seeds themselves do not actually do an auto version of the AK 47 yet (just White Russian Auto at the time of writing). But many other companies have decided that the AK would make a good auto strain, i would imagine this decision is down to the strength and yield capabilities of the AK.
