Description
Skunk is one of those names that still means something. Original Sensible Seeds keeps it close to the old-school line here, using the classic Afghan, Acapulco Gold and Colombian Gold parentage that helped make Skunk such a foundation strain in modern cannabis breeding. It is available as feminised seeds, with a photoperiod flowering cycle and a practical, dependable style that suits the reputation.
The balance is given as 70% indica and 30% sativa, so it has that solid Afghan base without losing the brighter lift from its Colombian and Acapulco Gold side. THC is listed at up to 25%. The effect is described as balanced: body relaxation and comfort, paired with an uplifting, clear-headed mental feel rather than a heavy, one-note stone.
Skunk’s importance is not just nostalgia. These genetics helped shape a huge number of later hybrids, including Skunk-derived lines such as Super Skunk, and they were also part of the early breeding history of Original Sensible Seeds in the 1990s. The breeder notes that Skunk genetics helped support early work behind strains such as Bigger Pine and PR1, giving this release a direct link to the brand’s own roots as well as wider cannabis breeding history.
Classic Skunk smell, without dressing it up
The aroma is exactly the sort of profile people expect from a traditional Skunk line: strong, fruity sweetness mixed with pungent skunky notes. There are also herbal touches, fresh citrus and crisp pine, so it is not just a blunt wall of stink. During flowering the smell becomes increasingly powerful, which is worth keeping in mind if discretion is part of the plan.
Myrcene is listed as the dominant terpene, with caryophyllene, limonene, pinene and humulene also associated with the variety. In the finished flavour, that comes across as sweet fruit and skunk first, followed by spice, citrus and pine. Fans of newer dessert profiles may find it more direct and old-fashioned; fans of classic cannabis flavours will probably see that as the point.
Flowering time, size and yield
Skunk has always had a reputation for being steady in the grow room, and this version is presented in that same practical mould. Flowering takes 50–60 days indoors, which keeps it on the faster side for a classic photoperiod variety. Indoor plants usually stay at a manageable medium height, around 90–130 cm.
Yields are strong, with indoor harvests listed at up to 600 g/m². Outdoors, plants can produce up to 800 g per plant in favourable conditions, with outdoor height given at 160–220 cm. Original Sensible Seeds also points to its Afghan heritage as part of why it performs across a range of climates, including UK outdoor grows, greenhouses and Mediterranean environments.
It is not pitched only at expert growers. The plant is described as vigorous, structured and predictable, making it suitable for newer growers as well as people who already know their way around training and canopy work. It responds well to SCROG, LST, SOG, topping and FIM, so there is room to shape it if yield control or canopy management matters in the setup.
Skunk is best understood as a dependable old-school choice rather than a novelty strain. The appeal is the combination of exact heritage, quick flowering, generous production, a strong classic aroma and a clear place in cannabis breeding history.
