Kalashnikov Seeds, established in 2002, is a quite unusual Russian seed bank, and has become famous for its unique approach to cannabis breeding. The company, operated by a group of experienced growers and Soviet army veterans, is headquartered in the Kuban region near the Black Sea. Their expertise extends across Russia, collaborating closely with partners in Saint Petersburg and the Far East region near China.
The seed bank specializes in creating a diverse range of strains by crossbreeding AK-47 clones from Serious Seeds with Russian, Eastern European, and Afghani landrace strains. This novel approach has resulted in an impressive lineup of seeds, including autoflowering, feminized, and the impressive "Express" lines. The Express strains are characterized by shorter flowering periods compared to their feminized counterparts. However, it's important to note that these Express strains are not autoflowering but require less daylight to enter the flowering stage.
Kalashnikov Seeds has been actively competing with Western seed banks and has gained a significant presence in the post-Soviet Union cannabis market. Their seeds are available in seven European countries, and they continue to expand their market reach. The company participates in numerous international cannabis expositions, showcasing the quality and uniqueness of Russian-grown seeds, which they believe are on par with, if not better than, many Western varieties.
