CBG (cannabigerol) is a compound found in cannabis, similar to the more commonly recognized THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). CBG is classified as a minor cannabinoid because it is found in very low levels and trace amounts in the majority of cannabis strains. For reference, CBG is often found to be less than 1% of a mature cannabis plant, whereas THC dominant strains can often be close to 30%. The low concentration of CBG in most plants means that it is not as easy to find as THC or CBD, but we do have marijuana seeds for sale with high CBG content here at Seed City.
In order to reach a higher yield of CBG, there are a couple of techniques that have been developed during production and extraction. First, specific marijuana plants can be cross-bred to get more CBG content, so now you can find some hemp that can contain 90% CBG!. Second, scientists have identified the best time to extract CBG from plants in an 8 week flowering cycle, which is somewhere around week 6. At this point, CBG is at its highest level, as it hasn’t converted to the other cannabinoids yet.
All humans have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), which helps maintain the body’s homeostasis. CBG has been found to interact with ECS in a positive way, without any of the psychoactive effects that you’re used to in THC.
You may be interested to try our marijuana seeds with high CBG, as this lesser-known compound has been found to be helpful for some bodily ailments, such as glaucoma, inflammatory bowel disease, and bacterial infections.
CBG may even be helpful in cancer treatment: it has been found to block colon cancer cell growth and can act as an appetite stimulant for those that are dealing with appetite loss during chemotherapy.
It has been established that CBG is non-psychotropic—meaning it can be used to treat physical diseases. So, scientists think that CBG may also be used to treat psoriasis.
We have already seen that there is so much potential in the use of CBG. There is still so much research and discovery to be done about all of the potential treatment and healing options that could include CBG or a combination of CBG with other cannabinoids. Future research and peer-reviewed studies will continue to reveal additional possible uses for this compound!
