Description
Northern Lights from Barney’s Farm Seeds keeps things old-school: a 100% indica made from Thai landrace x Afghani genetics. It is available as both feminised and regular seeds, which gives shoppers a choice between a more direct female-focused option and a regular format for those who want to work with male and female plants.
The headline cannabinoid figure is 26% THC. Its effect is described as relaxing, euphoric, happy and sedating, with the calmer side gradually becoming heavier. This is the sort of Northern Lights profile people usually have in mind when they want a strong indica for the quieter end of the day.
Plants have the compact, bushy look associated with classic indica lines. Indoors they usually reach around 90–110 cm, producing dense, cone-shaped flowers with purple-hued tones and a heavy trichome coating that gives the buds a frosted, sticky finish. Indoor yields are listed at up to 550 g/m², with flowering normally taking 55–60 days.
Outdoors, Northern Lights can grow taller, around 150–200 cm, with yields of up to 750 g per plant. Outdoor harvests are generally ready in the third to fourth week of September. Barney’s Farm also notes that training methods such as LST, topping, fimming, supercropping, ScrOG, pruning, defoliation and mainlining can be used with this variety, especially when shaping bushier growth or opening the plant up under indoor lights.
The aroma is earthy and pungent, backed by fresh pine and a touch of spice. On the taste, sweet citrus comes through first, followed by deeper earthy flavours and pine. It is a traditional cannabis profile rather than a modern candy-style one, and that suits the strain’s Afghan-heavy indica character well.
Northern Lights is a good fit for anyone after compact growth, solid resin coverage, a short indoor flowering time and a familiar relaxing effect from named Thai landrace and Afghani parentage.
