Colossus

Colossus is named plainly enough: it gets big, it yields hard, and it comes from two heavyweight sativa lines. Ace Seed bank has made this as feminised seeds, crossing Golden Tiger 2.0 Thai Koh Chang dominant with Neville’s A5 Haze, also known as Northern Lights #5/Haze A. The finished plant is an 80% sativa and 20% indica polyhybrid with the sort of vigour you’d expect from that parentage.

The breeding background matters here. Golden Tiger is described by Ace as one of its most potent, trippy sativa queens, with very high THC potential. Neville’s NL#5/Haze A is another serious piece of cannabis history: a powerful, productive Haze line that helped shape many of the best Haze hybrids of the 1980s and 1990s. Colossus also carries the Double Thai influence of Meao/Hmong Thai x Koh Chang Thai through the Golden Tiger side, giving it a more cerebral, stimulating and lemony edge than Killer A5 Haze, a related A5 Haze/Malawi-style line.

The headline cannabinoid figures are 20.24% THC, 0.04% CBD and 0.49% CBG. On paper that THC figure may not look as extreme as some modern catalogue numbers, but this is not a flat, simple high. The effect is described as very potent, long-lasting and shifting, with a strong Thai character that can be a lot even for seasoned users.

Big sativa growth with two clear expressions

Colossus is vigorous, tall, hefty and well branched. Indoors, it is manageable for an experienced sativa grower rather than a beginner looking for something small and predictable. Ace recommends strong light, correct abundant feeding, and an 11/13 flowering schedule indoors to help flowering along and reduce the chance of reflowering or excessive early stretch.

Flowering indoors is listed at 11–13 weeks. The main, more common phenotype finishes around 11–12 weeks, while a slightly more sativa type needs an additional 1–2 weeks. Outdoors it finishes in early November, with a suitable latitude range of 0º–43º. It is especially suited to tropical and subtropical outdoor conditions, and can also do well in warm coastal climates with mild autumns, including Mediterranean-style areas close to 43º latitude.

The denser type is a little more compact and makes large, heavy colas with a high flower-to-leaf ratio. The wilder sativa type has looser, less compact flower structure and keeps closer to a near-pure sativa look. Both can yield strongly. Outdoors, planted early in spring in soil, Ace reports that Colossus can produce 4 × 4 metres plants with outstanding yields. Indoors, the main cola production makes it suitable for SOG, while the strong lateral branching and good reaction to pruning also suit SCROG, horizontal or net growing.

Feeding wants a bit of judgement. The more tamed, compact type is recommended for moderate-high nutrient levels through development. The slightly slower, wilder sativa type prefers more moderate feeding. Resistance is listed as average-high against spider mites, botrytis, white fly, cold and heat, with average resistance to powder mildew.

Lemony Thai terpenes, incense and a deep finish

The most common phenotype is the one to look at if you want the denser flower structure and the more refined aromatic profile. It has lemony Thai terpenes from the Koh Chang-dominant Golden Tiger mother, with sweet floral notes, mango and incense over a deeper earthy, gassy and hashy background. Ace describes the texture as fine and silky, without the woody or herbal harshness sometimes found in pure Thai lines.

The second, near-pure sativa type shares the citrus and sweet floral Thai profile, but comes across spicier and wilder. The terpene profile includes very high beta myrcene, high limonene, moderate-low linalool and beta pinene, with lower alpha pinene and trans ocimene. Sesquiterpenes include moderate-high beta caryophyllene, moderate alpha humulene and guaiol, and lower alpha bisabolol.

The effect starts with a bright Thai-style rush: cerebral, exciting, expansive and stimulating. In the denser flower type it then becomes heavier, colder and more introspective, moving into a strong sativa/indica feel with deep body relaxation and a dissociative finish. The looser sativa type keeps more of the wild Thai lift, with a more cheerful, motivating, high-ceiling psychoactivity and less physical heaviness at the end.

A proper 4–6 month cure is recommended, as it can noticeably improve intensity and depth. Colossus suits growers who already enjoy long-flowering sativas and have the space, light and patience to let a large Haze-Thai hybrid do its thing properly.
